CALL FOR ART: Thoreau’s Revolutions at Trinity Episcopal Church (July-August 2025)

The Thoreau Society and Trinity Episcopal Church (TEC) invite artists to submit 2-dimensional artwork that engages with the theme of Thoreau’s Revolutions for an exhibition in July and August 2025. This exhibition will coincide with the Thoreau Society’s Annual Gathering and will extend beyond it, offering a longer opportunity for the community to engage with the artwork. The exhibition will focus on Thoreau’s revolutionary ideas as well as personal reflections on revolution in the context of his life and work.

Exhibition Theme:

The Thoreau Society’s 2025 Annual Gathering theme is “Thoreau’s Revolutions.” This theme aims to examine Thoreau’s efforts to understand and contribute to political, social, cultural, economic, natural, or spiritual revolutions. Artists are invited to explore this theme broadly and are encouraged to create work that reflects on these themes in a way that invites personal interpretation of revolution, change, and transformation, inspired by Thoreau’s life, writings, and philosophy.

Exhibition Details:

  • Location: Trinity Episcopal Church, Concord, MA
  • Dates: July and August 2025
  • Eligibility: Open to all artists. Artwork must be 2-dimensional, weigh fewer than 50 lbs, and be able to hang on the church’s rail hanging system.
  • Size: Maximum artwork size is 20 x 24 inches.

Submission Guidelines:

All submissions must be made through the Google Form, which allows image uploads. Maximum 5 artworks per artist will be considered. Please do not send additional materials outside of the form.

All submissions will be reviewed by a committee consisting of representatives from the Thoreau Society, the Arts Council at TEC, and Jennifer Tafe, Director of the Museum of American Bird Art. Accepted artists will be notified via email.
